The White House AI framework dropped today. It does not solve the problem science teachers actually have.
Field note from an independent science AI evaluator. The framework calls for federal preemption of state AI laws and lists child safety as its first priority. Fine. But it does not tell you whether the AI tool your students used in biology last week produces scientifically accurate outputs. It does not tell you whether it fails silently or whether you would even know. A uniform national policy does not evaluate a single tool against a single use case in a single science classroom. Schools are making AI adoption decisions today. Parents are already asking whether classroom tools are accurate and appropriate. Regulatory uncertainty just increased, not decreased — federal agencies are now challenging state laws and courts will sort it out over years. Most science programs have no evaluation framework for the tools already in use. That was true yesterday. The White House framework does not change it.
